In last week’s blog we highlighted how quality hot tub design helps create a stylish spa experience. This week we’re focusing on hot tub installations, where personal style gets to have even freer reign.

Easy Does It

Bullfrog Spa

Bullfrog Spa

Simplicity itself can be beautiful. With few bells and whistles around it, this Bullfrog Spa is quietly enticing just steps from the clients’ backdoor. Not to mention that it’s very relaxing when your new hot tub installation is quick and easy.

“For straightforward installations such as this, we simply position the hot tub atop a layer of gravel,” says Bill Renter, owner of Best Hot Tubs.

“We use a self-compacting gravel that’s a breeze to install. Using only gravel lowers the cost of making a base for the hot tub, and it allows for drainage, where, say, a concrete slab doesn’t. It also supports the hot tub, which is important because a spa filled with water can weigh two tons, making gravel an ideal substitute for a patio.”

insert-2 But what if a ground level installation isn’t the best option? What if you’re back door deck is higher up, and you want your hot tub easily accessible. In these cases, what you might want is a custom spa mount or “spa cradle.”

You’ll be happy to know that Best Hot Tubs’s expertise in creating attractive and sturdy spa cradles was recently highlighted in SpaRetailer magazine. As their feature pointed out, not only does our own Bill Renter have three Best Hot Tubs showrooms (Farmingdale, Westbury, Windham/NY), he also owned a landscape design/build firm (The Deck and Patio Company) for over 30 years. So his knowledge of how to integrate hot tubs into decks and patios is exceptional.

Any spa cradle should match your deck design. Here the cradle’s white frame over wood lattice literally becomes a second tier to the deck.

These clients asked us to design and build a portable spa into a modern-looking deck. During the process, we helped the homeowners choose the right-sized portable hot tub to meet their needs, and integrated it harmoniously into a new, sleek, two-story deck by mounting it on a custom spa cradle.

Upscale Installations

“Now as before, The Deck and Patio Company builds decks, patios, pergolas and ponds, and does all the landscaping in between,” says Renter. “We have maintained a close relationship with them and this allows us to continue to create very special installations.”

For this project, we installed a new Bullfrog Spa with a “set in garden” look and also included a serene man-made stream with waterfalls flowing into an Aquascape Inc. “pondless” reservoir.

Here we built a Bullfrog Spa into the ground and surrounded it with boulders and plantings for an enchanting in-garden appearance.  Because the spa is mostly built in the ground, it appears to be a custom spa when viewing it from the pool and patio. We were also careful to leave sufficient access on one side for ease in getting to the plumbing equipment panel.

This is one of our favorite custom installations. We fitted a  Bullfrog Spa completely in the ground next to a peaceful pond that Deck and Patio designed and built. To do this, we removed the plumbing and relocated it elsewhere for easy access. This is not as complicated as it sounds because Bullfrog Spas have 90% less plumbing that most other manufacturers.

This custom hot tub installation not only matches the elegance of the patio and pool surround, but because we raised it up slightly, when soaking in its healthful waters, it offers optimal views of the geometric vinyl pool and waterside vistas.
