Don’t even think of dying your hot tub green for St. Patrick’s Day. Indeed, green spa water, whether it’s from food dye, or because the hot tub water has been poorly sanitized, is not the way to enjoy ‘wearing of the green.’

Why ‘Dying’ your Hot Tub Water Is a Bad Idea

Chicago River, St. Patrick’s Day

Chicago River, St. Patrick’s Day

It will require too much food coloring to tint your spa water, which in turn would be extremely difficult to filter out of your hot tub’s systems.

While you may see reports that, for example, in Illinois they turn the whole Chicago River green for St. Patrick’s Day.

Remember! The parade organizer who came up with a formula for turning the Chicago River’s water green without harming or polluting the river has kept his special formula top-secret.

He’s been quoted as saying that revealing his secret was akin to, “telling where the leprechaun hides its gold.”

Filling Your Hot Tub with Beer Is Also a No No.

As for adding beer to your spa, you really don’t want to be absorbing all that alcohol through your pores. In addition to serious intoxication, alcohol absorbed this way can affect sensitive parts of the body in very unpleasant ways.

We highly recommend saving any intake of alcohol until after you and your friends are out of the tub. That’s the time for the green beer!
