While many properties that surround Best Hot Tubs’ Windham, NY, showroom enjoy oodles of uninterrupted space, some of those encircling our Long Island, NY showrooms (Westbury, Farmingdale) are tightly compacted with very small backyards.

When space is at a premium, hope for a swimming pool can be nonexistent. Even an expansive deck seems out of the question. But that doesn’t mean there’s no way to create sufficient space for fun outdoor living.

Consider these Best Hot Tub clients who live on a small narrow property on Long Island. In speaking with our team, they learned that our owner, Bill Renter, had his own landscaping design/build firm for many years and knows how to make a hot tub the central part of a larger backyard retreat — even when space is at a premium. In addition, our teams work closely with well-established landscapers, like The Deck and Patio Company, who did the deck and landscaping for this project.

Such collaborative expertise enabled us to help the clients design/create a two-level Trex deck in a very tight space, that was fitted with a mount for their new Bullfrog Spa.

The clients chose Trex Transcend composite decking because they didn’t want to deal with regular upkeep of a wood-deck. Knowing that, the landscaping ideas for the ground level of their yard included getting rid of the grass they did have and replacing it with a gravel area for a hammock.

“The handsome and easy-to-care-for spa-deck, not to mention the hydrotherapy and opportunities for fun their new hot tub provides gave these clients the backyard escape the hoped for, despite their property’s small size.”

“The whole thing came together with a minimum of hassle to the clients,” says Bill. “To maximize their budget, we recommended installing a prefabricated outdoor kitchen with lots of special amenities, in the deck’s lower level.”

Even though a yard (or budget) will not accommodate a pool, that doesn’t mean there’s no room for a fun water feature. You can fit a hot tub just about anywhere. Plus you get the additional benefit of hydrotherapy. This Bullfrog Spa, for example, offers removable jetted seats (JetPaks) with massaging jets that target specific muscle groups. How’s that for outdoor living.

Working with The Deck and Patio Company, Best Hot Tubs helped the clients get the privacy they wanted for their raised hot tub. Their property is only 20 feet deep and close to neighbors, so adding several 9-10-foot Leyland Cypress trees offered the privacy they wanted. “Leyland Cypress grow quickly, and when planted, will close the gap between them in one growing season,” says Bill Renter.

The Trex decking seen here is in light taupe “Rope Swing” color. As is the case with all the Trex Transcend collection, it gave these homeowners the durability and low-maintenance qualities they wanted.

The clients were able to fit an outdoor kitchen on the lower level of their new Trex deck. It boasts all-fireproof metal studs, an acrylic stucco finish, Supercast concrete countertop, refrigerator, Napoleon Grill and an entertainment center with satellite radio including a dock for their iPods. So while their yard space is limited, they have all they need for entertaining or just relaxing outdoors in their own backyard retreat.
