Wedding rehearsal dinners/parties don’t have to be stuffy occasions — for evidence, just google “outdoor wedding rehearsal parties” to find a mega-list of posts covering relaxing and fun outdoor affairs.

What you won’t see, however — and which surprised us frankly — is much of a sub-list for “hot tub” outdoor rehearsal parties. There are links to couples mentioning how much they and their wedding guests enjoyed using a hot tub at their rehearsal party. Venues frequently tout them in their wedding brochures and packages, for example, but there’s little about having your own hot tub rehearsal party.

Truth be told, what got us googling hot tub rehearsal parties in the first place was one of our Facebook followers — who not too long ago helped organize an outdoor wedding celebration for her friend — recommended we cover it. She even kindly sent us a photo she found on Pinterest that would make a great rehearsal party cake for such a fun event. We think it’s a great cake, too, and include it below.

Therefore, bowing to the rapid growth in hot tub parties in general, plus the clear push by wedding venues to mention hot tub/spa amenities in their advertising — and with the nudge of a loyal follower — Long Island Hot Tub is happy to offer some tips for making your hot tub a fun part of your own outdoor rehearsal party — or any party — with helpful google links, of course!

Hot Tubbing in the Rain:

Hot Tubbing in the Rain:

The dreaded question regarding all things “wedding” is “what if it rains?” Indeed, Long Island Hot Tub usually recommends keeping your hot tub covered when its raining in order to maintain properly balanced water.

However, we were inspired by a very useful blog post by Sundance Spas in the UK which offers great ideas on how to deal with such a deluge when using a hot tub. They make it sound like it might be even more fun for your event if it rains.

In addition, a mid-western spa resort has a fun post, “Enjoying Your Oasis Hot Tub in the Rain.”

As a bride who was married during the worst rainfall in New York City at the time, I wish these posts had been available on my big day! Upshot? Don’t worry too much about the rain if you’re having a hot tub event. We would recommend, however, that as you prepare your hot tub for the rehearsal party (see next photo), that you keep it covered until the event, especially if it’s raining, so as not to disrupt the pH balance.  (Photo: Courtesy of oasiskzoo.com)

Clean Water for Hot Tub Parties:

If you haven’t used your hot tub in a little while, for pristine clear water give your hot tub water a quick shock the day before the rehearsal party and again just before the guests arrive. Just before they arrive is also a good time to add some spa scents.

A spa can be the central part of any party, or an added element thats guests enjoy before or after the party begins. Whichever way you plan, hot tub parties are different and have special considerations.

A great blog post, “Throw the Ultimate Hot Tub Party,” by Bullfrog Spas provides a list of useful tips, including the right temperature to set your hot tub at, and the best type of drinking glasses to use around a hot tub.  Photo: Bullfrog Spas
