One Very Common Hot Tub Buying Mistake: Poor Massage Jets
Perhaps you’ve seen a few of the 1000+ posts on Pinterest related to the benefits of massage…like:
“Monday: Nothing a massage can’t fix,
“Yessss…It’s time for my massage,” or
“UGH…I need a massage.”
Now rather than book frequent massages at fancy spas or masseuse parlors, in our experience, many massage aficionados find they’d rather have deep rubdowns at the ready — right in their own backyard through the luxury of a portable hot tub.
However, a hot tub’s warm water therapy is not just all “oooh’s and ahhhh’s.” The National Aquatics and Sports Medicine Institute at Washington State University, and others, have discovered that there are remarkable health benefits associated with warm water hot tub hydrotherapy, via massage jets.
That’s great, isn’t it? However, when it comes to such massage benefits, not all hot tub manufacturers offer equal quality.

So how can I keep from making a hot tub buying mistake?
“Frankly, you won’t make a mistake if you are armed with the right information,” says Bill Renter, owner of Best Hot Tubs. “First, know that all hot tub massages are not equal. For a truly health-giving and stress-relieving experience, the key is having a good variety of different pulsating jets available in your spa to meet the needs of the moment. And, now this may seem counter-intuitive, but there should be a limited number of these jets as well — as opposed to cramming in a large number of jets into one spa.”
Bill explains that some manufacturers boast they have a large amount of jets in their tubs. “First, all these jets usually give all the same massages. And, second — and this is important — too many jets create a law of diminishing returns. The more jets you have, the weaker the jets’ force will be. Frankly, it’s no massage at all, if the penetration into tissue and muscle is weak.”
On the other hand, the Bullfrog Spas that Best Hot Tubs offers include up to 6 individual massage jets. These individual JetPaks are part of a patented system that come in a wide variety of different pressure point actions. By installing a limited number of these, with each offering very different massage points, means that when you lie back against a neck massage jet, for example, you can be sure it will hit both the neck and shoulders with a strong, tension relieving action.
“Cheap hot tubs may say they have a large number of jets, but comparing them to Bullfrog Spa jets, you’ll find the other spas are frequently offering 80% less pulsating strength,” says Bill.
Bullfrog Spas “Oscillator” JetPak
Each of Bullfrog Spas 16 different massage jets are constructed to give you a unique massage with specific benefits and you can design your spa to suit your massage needs when purchasing it. On any day, you can choose a different JetPak seat in your hot tub that meets your needs at the moment, as well as take these JetPaks out and put in others. That’s because they are interchangeable…and they snap in and out within seconds.
Pictured here is the JetPak “Oscillator.” Immediately below is a video showcasing how this popular JetPak works on your muscles, etc.
Bullfrog Spa Hydrotherapy
Promotional copy for Bullfrog’s “Hypnotic Rythmic Massage” JetPak, for example, boasts:
“The Pulsator JetPak will transport you away to a place where stress and worry just don’t seem to exist.”
Other Bullfrog’s pulsating jets offer therapy for a wide variety of health issues: stress relief, deep relief, pain relief, neck tension, relaxation, etc. Or how about a glorious tropical waterfall JetPak that flows warm water around your neck and shoulders while it provides you with a 4-point back massage?
Individual JetPaks Mean Individual Massages
With the exception of Bullfrog’s more price-friendly X Series, each JetPak snaps in and out…and in a matter of seconds. So you and your friends can have the massage that is ideal at that moment.
So, when buying a portable spa, be sure you are not making one of the most common hot tub buying mistakes:
Choose a spa that offers a variety of massage jets (you’re not always sore in the same place) with the right number of jets so that you always get truly therapeutic massages.
If so, you’ll soon be posting your own love of hot tub massages on Pinterest!
